BBC Films Offer Advice Sessions to Filmmakers

Our bottom line at Little Wing Film Festival has always been about creating meaningful opportunities for emerging filmmakers; helping to raise the profile of their work while also providing support to help them navigate their longer-term aspirations in the industry. We want to boost socioeconomic diversity in the UK film and create an inclusive platform for young filmmakers with bold and challenging stories to tell.

Offering prizes aimed at facilitating future projects, we’re particularly interested in developing pathways for our filmmakers that generate opportunities, give industry insights, and foster career growth. This year we’ll be working to deliver some of these opportunities alongside the team at BBC Films.

Filmmakers from each of the award winning categories will be offered a one-on-one advice session with a representative from BBC Films’ editorial team. Firmly established at the forefront of British independent film, BBC Films are responsible for co-producing distinctive British feature films with range and ambition. Over almost 30 years BBC Films has backed classic British films including BILLY ELLIOTT and most recently had two films in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in May, with Ken Loach’s SORRY WE MISSED YOU and Jessica Hausner’s LITTLE JOE. Alongside its support for established talent, BBC Films is an active partner in the iFeatures and Microwave first feature programmes and around 50% of its current slate is work from first or second time filmmakers.

Sam Gordon, Development Executive at BBC Films said: “we’re committed to supporting new talent and fresh voices and we’re pleased to be working with Little Wing Film Festival to give words of encouragement and hopefully some useful and practical advice to emerging filmmakers whose work has shone at the festival.”

Submissions close on July 22nd, so if you’re a current student, recent graduate, or first time filmmaker, submissions for all genres and lengths of films are being accepted on FilmFreeway.
