BBC Films Joins Little Wing 2020

We’re back again for our fourth year at Little Wing Film Festival and, while we may be shifting

online this September, the experience of our filmmakers remain at the forefront of how we

adapt. We’ll strive to create meaningful opportunities for emerging filmmakers; helping to raise the profile of their work while also providing support to help them navigate their longer-term aspirations in the industry, facilitate future projects and foster career growth. Through creating accessible opportunities and an inclusive platform, the UK's future storytellers and changemakers will come from all backgrounds and challenge the UK film industry to be bolder, braver, and reflect truly contemporary social narratives. Joining us once again, we're very excited to announce that we'll be working with BBC Films to help deliver these opportunity pathways and industry insights for our 2020 award winners.

Winning filmmakers from each prize category will be offered a one-on-one advice session with a

representative from BBC Films’ editorial team. Firmly established at the forefront of British

independent film, BBC Films supports invigorating and imaginative filmmaking. Fueled by its public service remit, BBC Films has an ambitious slate across development and production. BBC Films has supported four films selected for Cannes 2020. Three in Official Selection: Francis Lee's AMMONITE starring Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet; Steve McQueen's MANGROVE starring Letitia Wright, Shaun Parkes and Malachi Kirby; and LOVERS ROCK, also from Steve McQueen, starring Amarah-Jae St Aubyn in her screen debut opposite Michael Ward; and one film in Critics' Week, Aleem Khan's debut AFTER LOVE, starring Joanna Scanlan.

Recent BBC Films releases include NEVER, RARELY, SOMETIMES, ALWAYS the third film from Eliza

Hittman, winner of U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Neorealism at Sundance and the Silver Bear at Berlinale; MISBEHAVIOUR from Philippa Lowthorpe starring Keira Knightley, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jessie Buckley; Oscar®-winning JUDY directed by Rupert Goold and starring Renée Zellweger as the iconic Judy Garland; BLUE STORY, the debut feature from Andrew 'Rapman' Onwubolu and starring newcomers Stephen Odubola and Rising Star BAFTA-winner Michael Ward; Ken Loach's SORRY WE MISSED YOU, written by regular collaborator Paul Laverty; Joanna Hogg's THE SOUVENIR, which won the International Grand Jury Prize at Sundance; and Jonathan Glazer's extraordinary short THE FALL, which is on iPlayer now. Around 50% of BBC Film's current slate is work from first or second time filmmakers.

On working with young filmmakers in Britain and abroad, Dionne Farrell, Development Executive at BBC Films says, “Supporting New Talent is integral to what we’re doing at BBC Films, so I’m excited for the opportunity to begin conversations with exciting emerging filmmakers showing their work at Little Wing.”
